EMPLOYEE PROFILE

Meet Lauren

I joined the company as a Graduate Environmental Consultant in June 2021.

Meet Harry

based in telford, shropshire, we work with clients throughout the UK in a variety of waste industry sectors to provide solutions that meet ever-increasing environmental regulations. Our straightforward, no-nonsense approach builds trust and breaks down barriers, to make complicated legislation understandable.

Our work includes:

  • Assisting clients that operate construction/demolition waste recycling sites that treat this waste to produce recycled aggregates.
  • Assisting clients that operate waste transfer stations to ensure that recycling is maximised and that residual waste is disposed of lawfully.
  • Facilitating quarry operators to restore their sites using waste soils from other developments.
  • Assisting clients to be able to make products from recycled materials.
  • Assessing and minimising environmental risks from the waste industry.

What did you study and where?

I studied Geography for my BSc degree at Liverpool John Moores University and Environmental Sciences MSc degree at the University of Liverpool.

What is your role at Westbury Environmental Limited?

Environmental Consultant.

I joined the company as a Graduate Environmental Consultant in June 2021. With hard work and support from the team, I was able to progress to this role within 12 months of joining the company.

What does your day-to-day role involve?

The majority of my day is committed to project work. This differs between preparing an application, Materials Management Plan or Environmental Management System (EMS). This is in addition to time spent on the phone to clients, visiting their sites or conducting research on new regulator guidance.

I spend time assisting the team to overcome challenges they may be facing when preparing their own work. This is the benefit of working for a smaller company, we are able to face issues together and ask each other advice when needed.

I also get involved with the growth of the company, whether this be with marketing or getting involved with the magazine editorials that we write.

What key skills have you learned/developed?

  • How to speak to different audiences confidently e.g. clients, regulators and other industry consultants
  • Technical report writing
  • Working within time budgets
  • Teamwork

What do you most enjoy about your role?

  • Solving clients’ problems
  • Site visits - seeing how the industry works on the ground
  • Providing EMS training on the work I have prepared
  • Writing Fire Prevention Plans for different types of sites. From small waste transfer stations to large waste treatment facilities
  • Attending external events such as exhibitions / training
